This workshop will highlight a brand new partnership between See Me and SCOD to explore and challenge mental health stigma and discrimination from a deaf perspective. Deaf people experience higher rates of mental ill health but are excluded from opportunities to tackle stigma amongst Deaf communities and to tackle multiple stigma more widely in society. Hear more about the project, how to get involved and inform its work.
Workshop Facilitators: Linda Duncan
This workshop will provide an opportunity to consider how sign language interpreters and commissioners of services might engage to ensure that when interpreting services are commissioned they are fit for purpose.
We will look at what has happened around the country when interpreters have not been involved in the processes leading to the commissioning of services and the impact that has had on the Deaf community, the interpreting profession and the organisations who’s services Deaf people have been unable to access.
It will also consider how all parties can learn from the past in order to work together to provide better interpreting services in the future.
