Preparing for the delivery of Scotland’s Action Plan on Business and Human Rights – what you need to know and do.
The Scotland Act 1998 and the UK Human Rights Act 1998 ensure we have a legal framework for human rights compliance in Scotland. However too many people still fail to see a difference in public sector and government decisions on funding, services and policy. By focusing on the barriers to the equal enjoyment of rights, explaining the opportunities and giving examples that have made an impact, this session offers practical solutions to real issues.
The aim is to ensure human rights standards are better understood and applied locally and across Scotland; inform work with the public sector and those delivering services of a public nature on their human rights obligations; set out the opportunities for civil society organisations including trade unions and charities; share examples of where understanding and applying human rights have addressed real problems and respected the rights of people.
The outcome of this course is a better understanding of human rights within the Scotland Act 1998 and the UK Human Rights Act 1998 and the consequent implementation frameworks, for example, Scotland’s Action Plan on Business and Human Rights.
About the trainer
Carole Ewart is a public policy and human rights consultant who has worked on delivering human rights in Scotland for over 30 years. In this session she will share information, analysis and tactics on ensuring that human rights are better understood by duty bearers and rights holders to make Scotland fairer.
