Scottish Council on Deafness

Nine counsellors in Scotland are accessible to deaf and deafblind people.  Either they are themselves Deaf BSL users, or if hearing, are qualified at least to Level Two BSL and are deaf aware.

In 2009/10 three Counselling Training workshops were held - in Dundee, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
Deaf and deafblind people, interested in joining the counselling profession, were invited to find out what is involved in training.
Workshops were held with the support of The University of Abertay, Adam Smith College, The University of Strathclyde, Motherwell College, The University of Aberdeen and Aberdeen College.
Attendees at these workshops found out what is involved in training, what is expected of students and also what support is available.

There have been successes - with some attendees going on to enter training.
