SCoD National Council Meeting: October

This meeting was held at Deaf Action in Edinburgh.

SCoD members were fully briefed about the work of SCoD staff with presentations from Mandy Reid (Policy & Research), Derek Todd (Access to Democracy) and Barbra Wylie (Counselling Awareness).
Sabina Iqbal gave an excellent presentation about Deaf Parenting UK. We are supporting their bid to establish a Scottish branch of their charity.

SCoD 2008 Annual General Meeting
Prior to our AGM, we were welcomed by the Lord and Lady Provost, Mr and Mrs George Grubb to a civic reception. Some members already knew the Lady Provost because she was a teacher of deaf children at Donaldson’s!

Craig Crowley gave a very interesting presentation about UK Deaf Sport, which provoked some thoughts about how to make sure that deaf people can participate in sport on equal terms.

 
Deaf History Scotland: First Conference

Deaf History Scotland held its inaugural conference on 25th October at Deaf Connections in Glasgow.

In addition to presentations from guest speakers, the society's membership was launched as was their new logo and website.

Guest speakers included: Antony Boyce and Peter Jackson of the British Deaf History Society.
